Sydney Table Tennis - 2010 Primary Schools Championships Summary
COACH’S PERSPECTIVE -
Padstow Park Public School entered the 2010 NSW Primary Schools Championship for the second year. The standard was very high with many players trained by state and national coaches. Over 13 primary schools entered the competition, 66 teams with a total of 132 competitors. Our teams played extremely well defeating many teams and also showing great sportsmanship congratulating the other players when defeated.
Junior team 1 (Jayden and Brendan) was victorious in the round robin defeating two experienced school teams. They advanced to the knockout round and advanced again into the semi-final by defeating Murray Farm Public School. They continued to perform well, winning the doubles match against Epping Heights Public School, but were unable to win the next two singles matches. They eventually lost to Epping Heights Public School in the semi-final and took the Bronze Medal home for PPPS. F.Y.I Epping Heights Public School players represented NSW state. They ranked 5th and 9th in under 10s in 2009.
Senior team 1 (Matthew and Steven) were the Padstow Park Public School stars of this event. They played to the best of their ability, defeating two experienced school teams. Matthew and Steven lifted their game and performed at their peak level in the knockout round. They had a nail-biting battle against Carlingford West Public School and advanced to semi-final. They were defeated by Murray Farm Public School in the semi-final. They were happy with a Bronze Medal. F.Y.I., Murray Farm Public School players represented NSW state. They ranked 1st and 2nd in under 11s in 2009.
Senior team 2 (Calvin and Sahil) played exceptionally well in the round robin matches. They defeated Epping Heights Public School and St Andrew Public School. Calvin and Sahil played an intense knockout round. Unfortunately, they lost to Murray Farm Public School.
Junior team 2 (Tam and Raymond) and senior team 3 (David and Nathan) also drew some tough competitors. They were only introduced to the table tennis in the last 12 months and played very well but could not overcome the well-trained opponents. This competitive side of table tennis was a great experience for them all.
It was a very exciting yet nail-biting day for the coaches & parents and an eventful day for the players. Taking into consideration that table tennis has only been introduced to Padstow Park Public School last year. We should applaud our players for their effort and performance.
We would like to make a special thank to Mr. & Mrs. Thane, Mr. Ye and Mr. Nguyen who helped out with transport and supported our players during and after their games. At last, we would like to thank our head coach Mr. Bo who provided us with playing tips between matches.
